Leadership
Leadership Live Experience
Leadership is not just about getting people from one place to the other. Leadership is about achieving goals whilst maintaining effective relationships. To be a successful leader you have to be aware of how you lead. You need to be conscious of how you are perceived and received, aware of your body language and the impact your behaviour has; your attitude and your tone of voice.
Many of us get caught up in the frenzied pace of our daily work. Meeting deadlines and "getting the job done" is repeatedly our first priority - often at the expense of relationships. Working with horses helps you understand the importance of cultivating and nurturing the relationships with your colleagues. When working with horses, those who take time to establish a connection with the horse before moving to the task often encounter less resistance, often experiencing a greater sense of partnership.
Interacting with horses requires the same personal qualities as leading people in the workplace. In order to build leadership performance you will:
- Discover your personal impact as a leader, your ability to inspire others.
- Experience different leading positions, gaining understanding of your natural preferences.
- Practise being ‘100% present’, having clarity of focus.
- Learn how to gain and maintain trust, be authentic; develop relationships.
- Realise the importance of setting clear goals, communicating clearly.
- Learn about yourself, your role as a leader and how to engage with your team more effectively.
Horses respond in the moment, offering clear and honest feedback. A simple leading exercise may result in a horse moving enthusiastically for one leader, and refusing to budge for the next.
Communication is not only about what we say but also about how we say it. A horse cares nothing about your title or position. Earn the position and respect to lead and your effort is rewarded. Like some employees, horses can either be willing participants or resentful "herd members".

Working with horses allows us to experience leadership principles in a new way; providing opportunities to learn how to better communicate with integrity and authenticity, remain confident when faced with uncertainty, and motivate and encourage those we are attempting to lead.
Taking a look at leadership from another perspective can initiate profound change in just one day.
What to expect in a session:
First of all, no previous horse experience is necessary!
Our Insight HAD approach uses hands on exercises with horses selected for their appropriateness to the session. Each program is designed around fundamental principles in how we lead, communicate, and interact. Periodic debriefing sessions help participants understand the lessons learnt by comparing what happened in the arena with what happens in "real life" – individually, or as part of a team.
